A Different Direction

Goodness, my last post was almost two months ago. Either I've been busy or I've had nothing to write about.

The sale on Echo still hasn't closed, although we are getting closer....we hope. Some unexpected problems arose with the shaft which, of course, have to be fixed before the buyer will accept the boat. It is an old boat, but golly whiz, why can't things last forever (and cost less to fix)?

Now that we don't have a boat to occupy our time and attention, Yogi-dog and I are turning down a new road. Mr. Dog passed a test which is supposed to prove that he is a canine good citizen but I have to remind him of that on a daily basis as he forgets.

By passing the test, Yogi gets to be a therapy dog for The Animal League of Green Valley. Today, along with six other volunteer dogs and their handlers, we visited a nursing home to let the shut-ins have some time with a dog, a rare treat for some. One lady was sure that she'd seen Yogi a month ago because she remembered how cute he was. I'll wager if we see her the next time we visit, she will be equally sure that she's never seen Yogi before.

Other than trying to take a tennis ball off the bottom of an old lady's walker so she could throw it down the hall for him, Yogi was perfect. Although, by leading me down a hall toward the front door he made it perfectly clear that we were going to cut our visit short. Next time we'll try for a little longer time.

In January, Yogi and I will be going into the schools so that youngsters learning to read can read try to improve their reading skills by interacting with a listening audience that doesn't care if they mispronounce a word or even skip a couple here and there. It's been a successful program for many children. We'll see if this will keep us busy enough to make up for the loss of a boat....think?
